Accident Nieppe Today: A25 Motorway Shut Down for Over Three Hours, Community Report
DUNKIRK, France – The A25 motorway experienced significant disruption on Monday afternoon following a serious multi-vehicle collision near Nieppe, in the Dunkirk-to-Lille direction. The accident, which occurred around 3:30 p.m., involved a semi-trailer truck, a large van, and a passenger car, and resulted in the temporary closure of both lanes, causing extensive traffic delays for commuters.
The collision took place just past interchange number 9, close to a commercial area near the Hyper U between Nieppe and Erquinghem-Lys. The exact circumstances leading to the crash are still under investigation, but the impact was severe enough to immobilize all vehicles and scatter debris across the roadway.
Emergency services responded promptly, including officers from the CRS highway police and approximately ten firefighters from the Armentières fire station. Their immediate priorities were securing the scene, assisting those involved, and assessing the situation. Two people sustained minor injuries and were transported to a hospital; no serious or life-threatening injuries were reported.
The blockage required authorities to close this section of the motorway for more than three hours. Traffic was diverted at interchange 9, yet congestion built up quickly, creating a 14-kilometer traffic jam extending back to Bailleul. In the opposite direction, slowdowns also occurred as drivers passed the scene.
Recovery operations were led by the Buisine company, which carefully removed the truck, van, and scattered debris. The motorway section reopened around 7:30 p.m. after safety checks were completed.
Officials continue to investigate the cause of the crash and remind motorists to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines to prevent similar incidents.
